• 1/2 cup sliced almonds • 3 teaspoons sugar • 1/2 head iceberg lettuce • 1/2 head Romaine lettuce • 1 cup chopped celery • 2 whole green onions, chopped • 1 can (11ounces) mandarin oranges, drained • 1/2 teaspoon salt • a dash of pepper • 1/4 cup salad oil • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley or dried • 2 tablespoon sugar • 2 tablespoons vinegar • a dash of Tabasco sauce (optional) • 2 cans diced tomatoes • 2 cans chicken broth • 1 cup tomato juice • Dried basil • 1 cup half and half • 1 quarter pound or 8 tablespoons unsalted butter
