Our presenter at our January meeting was James Rosa. He provide a general overview on the Lions Eye Institute (the Eye Bank) and all the efforts being made to help visually impaired individuals in both the transplant and research fields. This would include the cornea transplant surgery, as well as different ocular research developments that this organization has participated in. He is familiar with organ and tissue donation and touched on this subject as well.

Participants joined the Multi-Cultural Affairs Committee to continue to honor DR Martin Luther King JR and learn about the history of voting rights in the United States. We discussed how voter suppression meant to target nonwhite Americans has also caused the suppression of the vote for people with disabilities, especially those experiencing some level of vision loss. We can build coalitions if we increase our understanding of each other's experiences. We have resources on our webpage to assist in this journey.

These are some of the stories that have helped to form the people that we are, solidified our love of different genres, and often provide a sense of comfort as adults. Participants joined Meka for a magical, fun-filled discussion of the books that we read as children. Let's journey together and find the joy and lessons that only a good children's book can teach us. Participants also brought their favorite titles in children's literature and were encouraged to be prepared for core memories to be unlocked as we were reminded of the magic that makes this genre so incredibly special.
